Chiropractic is a physical therapy utilising a range of drug-free and non-surgical techniques to promote recovery from conditions that result in pain and restriction of movement.
Chiropractic and your Nervous System
Your nervous system consists of your brain, spinal cord and millions of nerves which control every cell in your body. The nervous system is protected by your skull and the 24 vertebrae of the spine which have moving joints. When exposed to the stresses of daily work and leisure activities, these spinal joints often lose their normal function resulting in pain or restricted motion. Chiropractors have specialised training in the diagnosis and management of neck, low back and other common musculoskeletal problems. Combined with exercise, postural advice and ergonomics Chiropractic care is an effective form of care especially when directed towards musculoskeletal conditions.
Safety and Effectiveness
Chiropractic has an excellent safety record. Not only is chiropractic a treatment of choice for mechanical lower back pain, scientific research demonstrates it to be effective. Unlike medication and surgery, chiropractic assists the body to heal itself rather than just treating the symptoms.
Why choose chiropractic services?
Our chiropractic services are designed to carefully, gently and naturally adjust your spine and other joints to restore motion. Particularly for those of us who work at a computer or have a job which involves sitting or standing for long periods of time, taking care of your spine and posture can help you feel more comfortable. Your spinal health is very important and we believe everyone can benefit from periodical chiropractic check-ups that reinforce self-management strategies and assess for any changes in your condition. Chiropractic care is an effective conservative method when combined with exercise and other lifestyle choices to optimally manage your spinal problems.
Do I need x-rays?
This can only be determined on an individual basis. If x-rays are required, they are performed by Radiographers and reported on by medical Radiologists. These services are usually covered by Medicare.
What happens at your first visit?
Your personal chiropractic begins with a comprehensive evaluation of your problems, functional limitations and areas of pain. A thorough history and comprehensive physical, postural and biomechanical assessment, as well as a detailed orthopaedic and neurological examination is carried out. If x-rays or other imaging (i.e. MRI, CT, US etc.) is required, these will be arranged and may require liaising with your Medical Doctor. The treatment usually commences at the first session. Everything is then explained in detail at your report of findings appointment to ensure full understanding of your problem and the prevention involved.
